Orbital riveting is a method of joining multiple parts together by cold forming the end of the rivet. The resulting joint may or may not allow rotation of the mated parts depending on the product design. Typical solid rivet size range from 0.5 mm to 50 mm diameter. Orbital forming is a method of deforming material to desired shape with an orbital riveter. This process can be used to flare. Swage and crown material from 0.5mm to 150mm diameter.

The Spin Riveting Process

In the Spin Riveting process, riveting takes place by the process of 'material flow', leading to a flared finish. The tool rotates concentrically along its axis, but eccentric to the spindle axis of the machine. The geometry of rotation leads to smooth material flow.
This process is one of the most versatile processes for cold flaring of metals.

In this process, the riveting tool rotates eccentrically over the rivet shank coupled with a smooth forward thrust generated by compressed air/oil. The spin riveting process preserves the grain structure of the rivet. No faults are introduced as in the case of conventional high pressure riveting processes. Hence, spin riveting is a faultless riveting process with higher gripping strength for any rivet material.
